Game production.
This week we continued with the film room project. As on week 1 the first major asset was modeled (speaker set), I was able to begin unwrapping and texturing. As a team we discussed that we would finish modeling and texturing our main assets and add them to the whitebox, this was done so the whole team had an idea on the progress of each member, it also allowed us to play around with textures and scaling ensuring each asset flowed within the scene.

Before I was able to begin texturing I had to unwrap the entire model, due to the model having multiple objects that were duplicated and manipulated to make up the entire model I had to think carefully on the UV layouts. To overcome this I simply layed all the objects UVs with the same textures on top of each other allowing them all to share the same texture whilst saving texture space. For example the back of each speaker had the same texture therefore the back of all the big speakers I was able to layer on top of each other and the back of all small speakers were aligned on top of each other, this was done for all the objects that shared the same texture.

With the UVs completed i was able to start adding textures to the UVs on photoshop. The first problem I encountered was capturing the perfect saturation of colours from the movie scene and applying it to the textures. To overcome this I was simply able to use the colour picker tool and colour picked the main colours of the speakers from the movie scene and applied them to photoshop as the main background. With the basic colours done, the next challenge was capturing the graffiti on the speakers with perfect scaling and positioning. overcoming this problem was rather simple as I was able to copy and paste from the original scene screenshot and implement them into the UVs on photoshop, but due to positioning of the screenshot the pasted images came out blurry and distorted but I was able to use them as reference when painting my own textures.

With the model completed I was able to import into engine and play around with the object in the whitbox getting scale correct and ensuring the textures flow in adjacent with the other textures in asset.
During this week we also had a game production lecture based around the introduction of the unreal engine. I found this lecture really helpful as I was very new to the unreal engine, the lecture allowed me to grasp the basics of unreal which will help me on the later stages of the project.
Visual Design
This week we continued on the topic of composition, specifically focusing on elements of composition.
[add elements of composition photos]
This lecture allowed me to be able not only to understand how I am able to implement these theories into my own work but it also allowed me to be able to critically analyze other art work with professional terminology. Being able to critically analyze other artist work really allowed me to be able to find flaws in my own work and critically analyze my own work, furthering my understanding on creating better art.
Critical studies
During this week we were asked to bring in an image that we liked/ inspired us. We got into pairs and discussed the photo and the elements that we enjoyed and inspired us.

I picked this environment design by Kalen Chock. During the discussion with my partner, we talked about colour, composition layout and perspective. I chose this specific image as it did all three things great, the use of warm colours really brought the painting to life. Another element of the painting that drew me towards the painting was the scale of the each element of the painting for example the scale of the character alongside other parts of the painting really gave the audience a feel of the sheer size of the environment.
We were then asked how the image made us feel. This image simply made me feel small, as the foreground character was the first thing I associated myself with and it was a small character within a huge environment.
Plans for next week:
To begin unwrapping and texturing the second asset (three lockers)
Continue to practice painting and drawing trying to implicate composition techniques learnt in the visual design lecture.
